Parent Reviews

Honestly, I was skeptical about online chess coaching.

Aadvik hated sitting still for anything, and I thought a Zoom class would last two weeks max. It's been six months. Last Sunday his class teacher called just to ask what changed — his attention in maths has jumped. He now does his puzzles before I'm up. Coach Arjun has the patience I don't.

She used to cry after every loss. Not anymore.

Anika was playing 'casually' on chess.com and hanging pieces every game. First month the coach just drilled Checks-Captures-Threats. The dashboard is what sold me though. I don't know chess, but I can see exactly what she covered each week. Her play sharpened on its own by week eight.

The resilience piece was unexpected — and the real win.

We signed up for chess. What Ishita got was emotional self-regulation. Month one was all about learning to lose without falling apart. By month three she was analysing her own games after tournaments, pointing out where she'd blundered, calmly. Her results followed. But honestly, the composure is what I'll remember.

Chesswise Academy is an excellent place for kids to learn chess. The trainer is patient, knowledgeable, and focuses on building strong basics. Classes are well-organized and engaging. I can see good improvement in my child’s thinking and confidence. Highly recommend Chesswise Academy for chess learning.

How We're Different

Most chess classes teach moves. We teach how to think.

Most children's screen time trains distraction, not focus. ChessWize flips that — live online classes with FIDE-certified coaches on a platform built for deep attention, so sitting still and thinking deeply become automatic skills that carry straight into school.

Why Structured Evaluation Matters

Without structured evaluation, children plateau and lose confidence. We track five cognitive dimensions every week and adjust the plan when any metric stalls.

Meet the Founders

Three coaches who saw the gap — and built the fix.

ChessWize wasn't built in a boardroom. It was built by tournament players who turned into coaches, then realized the casual system was failing the very kids it was meant to help.

Tarun Gupta, Founder & CEO of ChessWize
The Vision

Tarun Gupta

Founder & CEO

ChessWize didn't begin as a business idea — it started with a single 'yes' to a parent after a district win.

After winning a district tournament, a parent asked if I'd teach their child. That single 'yes' turned into many, and one student became dozens.

Working across international academies, I noticed most kids don't struggle because chess is hard — they struggle because it isn't taught in a way they truly understand.

ChessWize is built to fix that: structured learning, clarity, and an engaging approach designed for young minds. Not just better players — better thinkers.

Chess is a powerful life skill. My job is to teach kids how to think, not just how to move pieces.

I represented my school at district and state level from 2010–2019, with multiple top-10 finishes in CBSE and inter-school competitions, and 5th in the Kanpur District U-15 Championship.

When I started coaching in 2019, what began as a passion turned into a mission — to nurture young minds through chess. Over 7+ years I've trained students across the USA, UK, Singapore, Australia, and the Middle East.

Every session is structured, interactive, and student-centric — built so children grow mentally and strategically, not just on the board.

We didn't want another casual class. We wanted structured curriculums, real progress, and concepts that actually stick.

My chess story started at age 10 — a park match caught my eye on the way to cricket. My grandfather taught me the rules, and soon I was winning school tournaments and representing my university at nationals.

Coaching casually in college, I saw a huge gap: kids struggled with even the basics. COVID forced me online, and the unstructured lessons leaving children lost made the gap obvious.

ChessWize was born from that — structured curriculums, scheduled progress, and lessons designed so the love for the game actually sticks. A movement to get every child thinking like a champion.

Parent Dashboard

Stop wondering if they're actually learning.

Most chess academies send you a "your child did well today" message. We send you hard data. Every week, you see exactly what your child practised, where they struggled, and what the coach is doing about it. If the numbers aren't moving, we change the plan — not the excuse.

Coach's Weekly NoteApr 12, 2026

"Saanvika's calculation depth improved from 2-ply to 3-ply this week. She's now seeing one move deeper before committing. Rook endgames remain the priority — I've added K+R vs K+R positions to her daily set. Expect noticeable improvement in 2 weeks."

Every Game Analysed, Every Mistake Mapped

After each session, your child's coach reviews every game they played — not just the result, but the thinking behind each move. We tag recurring mistakes (missed forks, premature attacks, time trouble) and build custom puzzle sets that target those exact weaknesses. Your child doesn't just "practise more" — they practise the right things.

Weekly Reports You Can Actually Understand

Every week you receive a WhatsApp report with your child's progress, puzzle accuracy trend, session attendance, and a plain-English note from the coach explaining what was covered, what improved, and what's next. You'll know if they missed practice, if their focus dipped, or if they're ready for the next level — without needing to understand chess yourself.

No Vague Promises — Just Measurable Progress

We track five core dimensions: tactical sharpness, opening preparation, endgame technique, positional understanding, and time management. If any metric stalls for two consecutive weeks, the coach adjusts the training plan and explains why. You'll never wonder "is this actually working?" again.
