How we teach

A clear lesson structure, with room for each child

The curriculum is shared across the academy. The coach adjusts the pace, examples, and practice to the student in front of them.

01

Teach the whole game

Students learn rules, tactics, planning, and tournament habits in a clear order. Each lesson builds on the last.

  • Board vision
  • Tactical patterns
  • Tournament preparation

02

Keep one coach involved

A matched coach stays with the child, remembers earlier games, and adjusts the next lesson to what they need.

  • No coach rotation
  • Weekly parent reports
  • Clear practice goals

03

Make thinking visible

Children explain why they chose a move. Coaches can then correct the decision process, not only the final answer.

  • Guided positions
  • Practice games
  • Post-game review

How it started

One parent asked Tarun to teach their child

That first lesson grew into a curriculum used by a team of coaches.

“After winning a district tournament, a parent asked if I'd teach their child. That single yes turned into many, and one student became dozens.”

While working with international academies, Tarun saw children struggle when lessons moved ahead before the basics were clear. ChessWize began with a more structured approach.

He now leads curriculum design and coaches senior students. Hrdyansh runs day-to-day coaching, while Aryan leads programme operations.

What the founders expect from a lesson

The curriculum is shared, but each founder brings a different part of it into focus.

Chess is a powerful life skill. My job is to teach kids how to think, not just how to move pieces.

If a 6-year-old can't explain it back to me in their own words, I haven't taught it yet.
